Terms of Use

The short version
  • HifzEcho is free for personal use. Please use it respectfully.
  • The Quran text is reproduced exactly from the Tanzil Project and the recitations come from Islamic Network.
  • The App helps you practise. It doesn’t judge your recitation or replace a teacher.
  • The App is provided as is, and these terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada.

1. Agreement

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and CodeMasters Agency Inc. (“we”, “us”), the developer of HifzEcho. By downloading or using the HifzEcho app (the “App”) or the website hifzecho.com (the “Site”), you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the App.

2. Your licence to use the App

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use. The App is free. There are no subscriptions, ads or in-app purchases.

3. Quran text and recitations

The Arabic Quran text (Hafs ʿan ʿĀṣim, Uthmani script) comes from the Tanzil Project and is used under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 licence and Tanzil’s terms. We bundle it exactly as published and check it against a fixed checksum. We never edit or generate Quran text. If you believe you’ve found an error, please email us right away so we can check it against the source.

Recitations by Mahmoud Khalil Al-Husary and Mishary Rashid Alafasy are streamed from Islamic Network. We don’t control that service and can’t guarantee it will always be available.

Please treat the Quran with respect when using the App.

4. Practice tool, not instruction

HifzEcho plays audio and gives you tools to practise memorisation. It doesn’t listen to you, assess your pronunciation or tajweed, or confirm that you’ve memorised a passage. Progress marks are your own. For correct recitation and certification, learn with a qualified teacher.

Scheduled routines depend on your phone’s settings, battery optimisation and permissions. Please don’t rely on them for anything time-critical.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Modify the Quran text or present altered text as coming from HifzEcho.
  • Copy, sell, rent or redistribute the App, or remove its notices or attributions.
  • Reverse engineer the App except where the law allows it.
  • Overload, disrupt or try to gain unauthorised access to the Site, our API or the services the App relies on.
  • Use the App in a way that breaks the law.

6. Third-party services

Some features rely on services from other companies, including Islamic Network (audio), Google Cast and Google Play services (speakers), and Cloudflare (Site hosting). Your use of those services is also subject to their own terms. We aren’t responsible for their content, availability or practices.

7. Ownership

The App, the HifzEcho name, logo and design are owned by CodeMasters Agency Inc. The Quran text and recitations belong to their respective sources and are used under their licences. These Terms don’t give you any rights to our trademarks.

8. Disclaimer

To the extent the law allows, the App and Site are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t promise that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free or compatible with every device or speaker.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, arising from your use of the App or Site. Because the App is free, our total liability for any claim is limited to CAD $50. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can’t be waived.

10. Termination

You can stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or end the licence if you break these Terms. Sections 7 to 11 continue to apply after termination.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be heard in the courts of Ontario, unless the consumer laws of your country give you the right to bring a claim where you live.

12. Changes

We may update these Terms. When we do, we’ll change the effective date above, and for significant changes we’ll give notice in the App or on the Site. Continuing to use the App after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

13. Apple App Store terms

If you download the App from the Apple App Store, the following also applies:

  1. These Terms are between you and CodeMasters Agency Inc. only, not Apple Inc. (“Apple”). We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the App and its content.
  2. Your licence is limited to use on Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
  3. We are solely responsible for providing maintenance and support for the App. Apple has no obligation to do so.
  4. If the App fails to meet any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation regarding the App.
  5. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the App, including product liability claims, claims that the App fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection or privacy claims.
  6. If a third party claims that the App or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.
  7. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  8. You must comply with any applicable third-party terms when using the App.
  9. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Once you accept them, Apple has the right to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

14. Google Play terms

If you download the App from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply. Google is not responsible for the App or these Terms.
